Associate Principal - Dr. John Iverson
Dr. John Iverson taught 8th grade Georgia History and 7th grade Eastern World at Creekland Middle School in the Gwinnett County Public School System (GCPS) for over twelve years. In 2019, he began serving Alps Road Elementary School as the Assistant Principal in Clarke County School District. He earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Harding University in Searcy, AR (1992) and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Georgia (UGA-2010). His Doctorate Degree (Ed.D.) was completed in Educational Leadership and Policy from UGA in June 2018. The topic of his dissertation was “A single case study on the changing ecology of a suburban public middle school in Georgia: The implications of demographic change.” His professional career began at Fifth Third Bank where he worked his way up from a customer service representative (CSR-teller) to the position of Indirect Lending Officer. His dream, however, was to become an entrepreneur and own a dry-cleaning business. Before relocating to the Atlanta area in 2007 to teach in GCPS, he owned and operated several dry cleaners in Cleveland, OH for ten years. His first professional teaching opportunities began as a substitute teacher in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools in 2003. In 2006, with the help of the Teacher Education Evening Licensure (TEEL) program at Notre Dame College, Iverson obtained an Ohio Professional Educators License to teach full-time in Mathematics, Social Studies, and Reading. When he is not writing papers and/or reading research articles and books, Dr. Iverson enjoys reading historical fiction books, running, golfing, horseback riding, and gardening. Most of all he loves to learn and teach others the joy of learning.
